According to the latest market research report by ElectroniCast Consultants, the global consumption of packaged LEDs in biophotonics and medical devices has grown by 19.8% in 2013 to reach $77.3 million.
According to ElectroniCast, the use of packaged LEDs in biophotonics and medical science devices accounts for 62% of sensing/detection and analysis/monitoring. By 2020, the market share of this segment will decrease, but consumption will triple.
LED consumption in phototherapy, hygiene systems, cell regeneration and curing applications (including water treatment, medical, health and beauty photodynamics (PDT) and curing methods) is expected to grow by more than 30% in 2013 to reach $25.78 million (accounting for 33% market share). In 2012, LED's instrument light source and image application market was US$ 3.18 million, and in 2013 it increased to US$ 4.09 million with a market share of 5%.
From the market perspective, the Americas accounted for more than 40% of the global market share in 2013, but Europe, Central Asia and Africa (EMEA) and the Asia Pacific region will be the fastest growing markets.
