Laboratory water

Distilled water

Distilled water refers to pure water prepared by distillation, which can be distilled once and repeatedly. The water is distilled once, the non-volatile components remain in the vessel and the volatile components enter the initial fraction of distilled water, usually only the middle portion of the fraction, about 60%.

To obtain purer water, an alkaline potassium permanganate solution can be added to the distilled water to remove organic matter and carbon dioxide. A non-volatile acid is added to make the ammonia a non-volatile ammonium salt. Since the glass contains a small amount of water-soluble components, it is necessary to use a quartz distillation vessel for two or more distillations to obtain very pure water, and the obtained pure water should be stored in a quartz or silver container. Pure water prepared by distillation is called distilled water.

Distilled water is the most widely used experimental water in the laboratory before the appearance of the purified water machine, mainly due to the lack of electrolyte and impurity content of distilled water.

Deionized water

Deionized water: As the name suggests, all the ions produced by the ionization of the electrolyte in water other than hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions are removed. That is, the electrolyte substance dissolved in water is removed. Since the ions generated by the ionization of the electrolyte in water can increase the conductivity of the water, the purity of the deionized water is naturally measured by the conductivity. Deionized water is basically obtained by ion exchange.

Deionized water is also more and more water used in laboratory applications. The quality of deionized water obtained by different processes is different. Process 1 obtains deionized water, and the water quality fluctuates greatly, especially when ion exchange resin tends to In the saturated state, the ion content in the produced water is increased, and the content of organic matter in the deionized water obtained in Process 1 is generally relatively high.

Process 3 is a technology used in more and more water purification equipment (Milli-Q secondary pure water adopts similar purification technology), and the adoption of EDI technology can make the content of ions in pure water more stable and the purification cost is greatly reduced. The obtained deionized water has very low ion content and organic content.

Bottled pure water

Bottled purified water is also used as experimental water by some experimental personnel. Strictly speaking, this is an irregular experimental water. Laboratory water is a chemical reagent commonly used in laboratories. The chemical reagents used in any experiment have certain quality standards. These quality standards meet the basic requirements of the experiment. Drinking water must contain trace elements necessary for humans, and the presence of these substances can interfere with the experimental results.
