Many farmer friends often encounter this situation. Someone tells you in person or promotes it in the circle of friends: Take a look at the fertilizer I sell. These days it has rained and the weather is humid, and there are a lot of white hairs on the outside of the bag. The growth of white hair means that the bacteria are multiplying. My biological fertilizer is a good fertilizer that can be seen and touched!
For the time being, we will not discuss whether or not bacteria are added to this so-called good fertilizer. First, we will study what the white hair is.
Except for the individual added actinomycetes, most of the added microbial inoculants are spore bacteria. These two types of bacteria multiply to form colonies, but they are not easy to see with the naked eye because the individuals are too small. Of course, they will not grow hair when made into fertilizer! Just like steamed buns with noodles, steamed buns, and vinegar, the beneficial bacteria are working, but no hairs are seen. What does it mean if it gets hairy? It means that the fermentation failed due to contamination by bacteria. It can be seen that the hairs grown by fertilizers are usually miscellaneous fungi, and most of them are harmful fungi of the genus Pythium.
Bacterial fertilizer does not grow hairs during normal storage. Most of the common long-haired products are organic fertilizers that have not been thoroughly fermented. In the environment of high temperature and humidity, a large number of harmful fungi are produced. Because of the large amount of long hair, this product does not add any functional bacteria, and it is likely that the moisture content is excessive and there is a danger of burning seedlings.
As it is difficult to detect the live bacteria added in the bacterial fertilizer, how do dealers and farmers choose good bacterial fertilizer? The first is to see whether it will grow hairs when the bacterial fertilizer is stored or used in the field for a short period of time; the second is to smell, the fermented organic matter used in the regular bacterial fertilizer should be aromatic, not foul.
