Tequila is a perennial evergreen plant of the agave family Agave and is tall. The leaves are gray-green or blue-gray, and can grow up to 1.7 meters in length and 20 centimeters in width. The base is arranged in a rosette shape. The leaf margin thorns are initially brown, followed by grayish white, and the tip of the sting can reach 3 cm in length. With as many as a few hundred flowers, the plants die when they are spent, so the agave is called a "century plant."
