The 2010 World Congress of Molecular Imaging (WMIC) showcased a variety of molecular imaging tools including new probes and imaging platforms, including bioluminescent tomography from the team of Professor Tian Jie of the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Department of Life Sciences of Xidian University. The (BLT) and 3D reconstruction platforms are eye-catching.
BLT is a new imaging gene optical imaging method. Preclinical studies have confirmed that BLT can monitor a variety of physiological and pathological processes in vivo, and has great potential for application in drug development, early disease diagnosis and treatment monitoring. At present, the team's bi-modal BLT/micro-CT system (registered patent) developed by Dr. Liu Junting has conducted a number of tests to achieve in vivo imaging of liver tumor monitoring, angiogenesis assessment and other animal models.
In the imaging of tumors of the right lobe of tumor immunodeficient mice, based on the hp-FEM quantitative 3D reconstruction procedure, the BLT/micro-CT system can not only complete the noninvasive in vivo display of tumor cells carrying the reporter gene. Traces and quantifies the energy of cellular optical signals in deep tissue. Compared with the two-dimensional optical imaging system, the imaging has higher sensitivity, specificity and can achieve accurate positioning in time and space. The research and development of this platform fully demonstrated China's attempts and breakthroughs in molecular imaging device R&D.
