ON Semiconductor, which promotes energy-efficient innovation, was selected by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) as the CES 2017 Innovation Award in two different categories. This was announced at CTA's annual CES Unveiled New York event - the company's Ezairo 7150 SL audio processing hybrid module won the "Tech for a Better World" unit award, Smart Passive The SenorTM (SPS) solution also received the same recognition in the embedded technology category. The Ezairo 7150 SL and SPS scored high on all judging criteria and included a small, outstanding list of award-winning products this year.
These two awards once again highlight the breadth of ON Semiconductor's engineering expertise: one product innovation focused on improving the lives of hearing aid wearers with wireless technology, and the other for wireless sensor networks for the implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT).
The Ezairo 7150 SL is a compact, hybrid module based on digital signal processing (DSP) that supports open wireless interoperability in hearing aids and cochlear implants. The precision hybrid module integrates an audio DSP, EEPROM memory, and a radio integrated circuit (IC) into a single micro package that allows hearing aid manufacturers to incorporate advanced wireless features into their designs without affecting overall system size. This provides the wearer with the convenience of controlling the characteristics of the hearing aid directly using the Bluetooth low energy (BLE) connection (volume, change program). The Ezairo 7150 SL uses a 2.4 GHz proprietary protocol that also allows the wearer to stream audio from any media source, such as a television and music system, using a remote accessory. These features help greatly enhance the user experience and improve the quality of life of the wearer.
The SPS1M and SPS2T intelligent passive sensors eliminate the need for a microcontroller or battery at each sensing node (and thus have power, cost and space advantages). These ultra-thin devices work automatically to sense critical parameters (temperature, humidity, pressure and distance) in an energy-efficient manner, supporting all energy needs through energy harvesting. They provide a battery-free wireless network without the need for regular maintenance, reducing associated operational costs.
