The project discovered the male sterility induced by temperature and photoperiod in the sorghum in 1988 for the first time. After a 5-year systematic study, this kind of temperature-induced male sterility was used to breed the first genetic stability in the world. The temperature-sensitive male sterile line "Xiangqi S-1" and the "Xiangye S-1" and "Xiang 10721" cross were used to breed the first two-line, high-yielding new combination "Xiangyou Youyi No. 1" for the first time. The research has proposed a complete set of techniques for propagation, seed production and high yield cultivation of two-line hybrid sorghum sorghum; it has initially identified the mechanism of temperature-sensitive and photo-sensitive male sterility and laid a theoretical basis for revealing the emergence of temperature-sensitive and photosensitive sterility. The above research results are the first case of sorghum research at home and abroad, opening up new ways for the utilization of sorghum heterosis. “Xiangliangyouyi No.1†was promoted to 358,800 mu in 19 provinces, municipalities directly under the Central Government, and autonomous regions from 1992 to 1998, which has obvious advantages in increasing production. The average yield is 450-500 kilograms per mu, and the highest yield is 766.5 kilograms per mu. The combination is of excellent quality and is a good raw material for famous jingqin. It has a high rate of alcohol extraction. It produces 43 kilograms of white wine and 50 kilograms of rice wine per 100 kilograms of alfalfa. Its wine quality and liquor yield are better than those of local varieties, and it is better than Jinzuna 4 The wine rate is 10% to 13%, and the wine production is 100%.
