In spring, the warm season is still cold. It is due to the scarcity of green feed. Many dairy farmers supplement silage by feeding silage, which has many advantages, such as lowering the cost of raising the crop, increasing the utilization of crop straw, and increasing the yield and income of dairy cows. However, silage is produced from fermentation of lactic acid bacteria under the conditions of sealed and anaerobic crop straws. If it is improperly taken and fed, it can easily lead to poisoning caused by silage deterioration. Therefore, the Bureau of Agriculture recommends that farmers should pay attention to the following four aspects when feeding silage to dairy cows:
1. Guarantee feed quality. High-quality silage is greenish green or yellow-brown. The smell is savory and the texture is soft and moist. The veins and villi on the stems and leaves can be seen. Poor quality sticks together, indicating that more water; some loose, dry, hard texture, indicating less water. When you use silage, you must use high-quality feeds. Black or dark brown in color, odor in acid, even musty, rot, and deterioration should be discarded immediately. Do not feed dairy cows. If dairy cows are fed silage, they can easily cause miscarriage.
2. Science access to feed. When taking silage, it must start from the end of the silo, according to a certain thickness, layered from top to bottom, to prevent mixing of the soil, should not be dig from a hole. It is advisable to take the amount of each day for feeding one day. In the early spring, micro-frozen phenomenon still exists. After the silage is taken out, the silo pool opening must be closed immediately to prevent deterioration of silage due to cold weather and long-term contact of silage with air.
3. Grasp the feed amount. Silage has a certain sour taste, and some cows may not be accustomed to the initial feeding. They should follow the principle of gradual and gradual progress. The hay can be placed on the upper layer and the silage on the lower layer can be fed on an empty stomach to allow it to gradually adapt. In general, calves are fed silage after weaning. The daily feeding amount of silage for adult dairy cows is preferably 20-25 kg, and the post-weaning calves are in the range of 5-15 kg.
4. Stress scientific collocation. Although the silage is a kind of high-quality roughage, it must be scientifically matched with the fine material according to the actual needs of the cow to improve the utilization of the feed. As far as our region is concerned, the ratio of dairy cow concentrate feed and silage (moisture content) feeding is 1:3-1:3.5. If silage acidity is large, 5%-10% baking soda or 1%-2% lime water can be added to the feed, rinsed and fed to reduce acidity, improve palatability, and promote digestion and absorption.
