September macroeconomic data is about to be announced one after another. Driven by food prices such as agricultural products, CPI is expected to grow by about 3%, a slight increase from the previous month. Shen Wan analysts believe that September CPI is expected to increase by 3% year-on-year, 0.4 percentage points higher than the previous month. Food and non-food prices rose by 5.7% and 1.6% respectively, up by 1 and 0.1% respectively from last month. China Merchants Securities analysts believe that September CPI is expected to increase 2.9% year-on-year, compared with a 0.6% MoM. Shanghai Securities analysts expect the September CPI to increase by 3.1% year-on-year.
Food prices are the dominant factor influencing CPI fluctuations. SW analysts said that the biggest month-on-month rebound rate was for vegetables and pork in September, which was 13.1% and 1.9% month-on-month, respectively. Compared with the month-on-month increase of the previous month, the growth of vegetables was 7.7 percentage points, and pork growth narrowed by 3.2 percentage points. The main reason for the increase in vegetable prices is that heavy rains in some regions are frequent and it is not conducive to the growth and transportation of vegetables. The price of vegetables in the latter period may still rise. Non-food prices are unlikely to rise significantly due to overcapacity.
Analysts expect the PPI to decline by about 1.5% in September, which is basically the same as last month. In September, the prices of chemical and rubber products rebounded by a relatively large margin of 0.6% and 4%, respectively, while the prices of minerals, ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals both increased from the previous month’s positive quarter-on-quarter to month’s month-on-month. The recovery has weakened the price of these products.
