Pharmacy selling milk powder with a threshold

If the pharmacy had been punished by the relevant regulatory authorities for handling counterfeit and inferior drugs, it would not be able to sell infant formula. The State Food and Drug Administration recently issued the “Notice on Conducting Pilot Sales of Infant Formula Milk Powder in Pilot Stores”, setting a threshold for pharmacies selling milk powder. The notice pointed out that pharmacies should set up sales of infant formula milk powder counters, and management of infant formula milk powder sales should be managed with reference to the pharmaceutical business quality management practices.

The notification said that for pharmacies applying for pilot sales of infant formula milk powder, they should meet the conditions stipulated in the food circulation permit and meet three requirements at the same time: First, there should be no record of penalties imposed by the relevant regulatory authorities for the handling of counterfeit and inferior drugs and other commodities. Second, there is a business area, conditions, and facilities for sale of infant formula milk powder in special areas. Third, there are personnel and capabilities to provide professional guidance on food safety and consumption.

At the same time, the reporter learned that Beijing began experimenting with a “milk powder into a pharmacy” project in October. In the middle, it suspended sales of the powdered milk vending machine for system testing. After the completion of the assessment, it has resumed sales.
