California-based Proteus said the device was placed in a schizophrenia drug called Abilify, and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has agreed to review its equipment.

The ingestion sensor in the tablet communicates with the wearable sensor device and the medical software program. After placing the tablets ingesting the sensor, the tablets reach the stomach and the sensor sends a signal to the wearable device.
This wearable device records information obtained from the ingestion sensor to facilitate collection of patient data, including rest time, body angle and activity patterns. This information can be passed to mobile phones or other Bluetooth-enabled devices and can only be worn by their doctors and caregivers with their consent.
