According to South Korea's "East Asia Daily" reported on June 13, Korean researchers have developed a new technology that can observe the inside of the animal's brain and treat it in real time. The research team led by Jin Shengji, head of the Brain Science Image Research Institute of the Institute of Basic Science (IBS), announced on the 12th that it has developed a "cap bone window" made of soft and transparent plastic.
In order to observe the brain tissue activity of living animals, the medical community will remove some of the skull bones and cover them with a transparent glass "head bone window". However, the "cap bone window" used in the past has the disadvantage that it is easy to cause irritation to the brain and cannot be operated because of the use of a hard material.
The above research team developed a "soft window" using a transparent plastic "PDMS" made of soft material, which can not only observe the inside of the brain, but also directly perform surgery on cerebrovascular and brain cells. Experiments with white mice have shown that specific cells in brain cells can be green-fluorescent. Therefore, even if the mouse is not anesthetized, the blood flow condition can be observed for more than one hour.
The research team used a "soft window" to either inject the drug directly or insert an electrode at the desired location to determine its neural signal. "PDMS" can be produced in the laboratory in just two or three hours, and it is expected that the brain can be subjected to various experiments in a stable state in the future.
The head of the gold said: "You can open the window to the brain and realize real-time observation and treatment without letting the brain spine flow out." "This allows deep research on brain function and helps to understand degenerativeness." Refractory diseases such as brain diseases."
The research results were published online on the 10th published academic journal Science Report. The research team also registered a patent for "soft window" in Korea.
